Acupuncture

Acupuncture works on the principle that health is established by a smooth flow of Qi and Blood through the meridians and organs. A disease state is believed to occur when energy flow is blocked, is deficient or in excess. If we will compare the meridian system with nature, it is similar to a path in a river through which water flows which is a passage for the vital energy (water) needed to fertilize the human body (land) on which to sustain and grow life (plants and animals).

Meanwhile, the points on meridians may be understood as a mechanism designed to control the energy flow just as an embankment or a dam controls the flow of water. The processes of stimulating the prime meridian spots and righting the disrupted energy flow by acupuncture are analogous to the processes of opening and closing the floodgate of a dam.

During an acupuncture treatment, the body undergoes a normalizing process. The needles are used to set up an energetic pattern to remove the obstruction, fill the depletion, and encourage the smooth flow of the vital force throughout the body, returning the individual to their optimal level of well being.

The end result is a kind of homeostasis in which the body’s essential wisdom brings about a self-regulatory effect. Many people are surprised to learn that acupuncture is relatively painless. Unlike hypodermic needles, which are hollow and large, acupuncture needles can be as fine as human hair. Many times a patient is not even aware a needle has been inserted.

In typical acupuncture treatment, patient lies down and needles are inserted in the points to have the desired effect on the body. Patients can sense a little heaviness, movement or an electrical impulse that signals the arrival of Qi. After a few minutes patient typically feels a sense of calmness and well-being, many people fall asleep.
